How I Interview business partners

Sep 04, 2024

Hello, friends! Today, I want to talk about something exciting that happens after you set up a business meeting. This is like a follow-up to my last blog post where I showed you how to get these important meetings. Now, let’s talk about what happens when you sit down to chat about business.

Imagine you are meeting someone for the first time. It’s important to start the meeting with some friendly talk. Spend about 5 to 10 minutes just chatting about fun things. You can talk about your families, what you did last weekend, or anything fun happening in your life. This makes the meeting nice and not just all about business.

After the friendly chat, it’s good to ask, “Would it be okay if I asked you a few questions?” This shows you care about their thoughts and makes it easy to start talking about work.

Here are the questions I like to ask:

1. **Tell Me About Your Business**: I ask them to share how they started their business and what they do every day. I listen and take notes. This helps me understand their business better.

2. **How Do You Market Your Business?**: Next, I ask where they get most of their customers from and what they do for marketing. This tells me how they find new people to work with.

3. **How Many Referrals Do You Get?**: I ask if they get business from financial professionals like financial advisors or real estate agents. This is important because in Core 7, we help different professionals work together well. If they don’t get many referrals, I can show how I can help them get more.

4. **Tell Me About Your Mortgage Originator**: Then, I ask about their relationship with their mortgage originator. What do they like or not like? This helps me understand what they need.

At the end of the meeting, I ask one more question: **Would you give us a chance to earn your business?** I also invite them to meet my team and see how we work. If they’re interested, I send them a link right then to schedule a time to visit us.

This way of talking with people has worked really well for me, and I think it can work for you too. It helps us make new friends in business and find ways to help each other. Thanks for reading, and I hope this helps you in your next business meeting!
