Prospecting Plan: Do you have one?
Sep 04, 2024Hi everyone! Today, I'm going to share a really cool way to make new business friends that has worked well for me in the past. This simple plan was something I learned from a smart lady named Sue Woodard about 15 years ago, and maybe it could help you too!
Imagine you have a list of people who you think would be great friends to work with. The first thing I do is warm them up with a little gift. I like to send them a book. I used to send books like *Rich Dad Poor Dad* or *The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People*. But now, I send my own book called *The Core 7: How to Buy a Home and Secure Your Financial Future Simultaneously*. It’s about how to buy a home and keep your money safe. It’s perfect for my new friends and their customers too!
When I send the book, I also include a nice card. The card lets them know that I hope they enjoy the book and that I'll be calling soon. Here’s a little trick: I try to call when I think they might not pick up, so I can leave a voicemail without bothering them.
Then, I follow up with an email saying, "I just left you a voicemail." In the email, I suggest meeting for coffee if they’re open to it. Some people respond, but some don’t—and that’s okay!
If I don’t hear back, I send another email in two days, gently reminding them about the coffee. If I still don’t hear anything, I send one last email. This time, I mention that it’s okay if they’re too busy, but to just let me know.
Many times, people reply back saying they were just busy but would love to meet. I’ve found that sometimes people only say no because they're overwhelmed, and that's why follow-up is so key.
This approach has worked for me, and maybe it could be helpful for you too. Stay tuned for my next blog post, where I’ll talk about what to do when you meet them. I call it the "interview process." It’s going to be fun! Bye for now!
